I really liked Duke of Shadows (esp. the first half) and Written on Your Skin.Kaetrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16936055488367251592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480569708975020177.post-34584970033207794392011-04-03T18:17:59.400+09:302011-04-03T18:17:59.400+09:30Lots of good books here. I just managed to get hold of one of them last week so I am very excited.

I have been told to try Bourne so many times, but still haven't actually tried her!

I have a couple of Duran's books but have only read one. I need to get back to her.Marghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13508430635744720721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480569708975020177.post-9075393350343340722011-04-03T11:52:00.786+09:302011-04-03T11:52:00.786+09:30@ Lori - I've only read one other Kleypas hist...@ Lori - I've only read one other Kleypas historical - when I was going through my Goodreads and putting on all my books (so glad I don't have to do that again!) I realised it was When Strangers Marry. It was one where the author had gone back and re-edited the original story and added somethings in as well - I'm not sure if that made it better or worse, but I hated it. It put me off trying any of her other work, despite her excellent reputation. But, then I won a copy of Blue Eyed Devil and I read it and loved it so I got the other contemps as well and then decided it might be worth giving the historicals another try. Then Came You worked fairly well considering all my baggage! Now that I know just how many books are on my TBR (did I really want to know that?) I'm not sure when/if I will pick up a copy of Dreaming of You - maybe at a UBS one of these days if I'm browsing.

I guess Bourne isn't everyone's cup of tea - she tends to write very dense and lush and those who prefer a simpler style might find it too flowery. I kind of have to be in the mood to immerse myself in the lyricism of it but if I'm in the right zone, I really enjoy her work. I generally try not to read those books when I'm in the mood for something else though - that's just a waste of time. :)Kaetrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16936055488367251592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480569708975020177.post-8062309876575412942011-04-03T11:46:37.445+09:302011-04-03T11:46:37.445+09:30@ Chris. I'm enjoying Cat & Bones quite a bit - I think the Ilona Andrews series and the Mercy Thompson series are (overall) better, but these are still very good and they work quite well on audio. I ended up getting the other 2 series in print as well as audio but I don't think I will with the Frost series.

I did join the Frost fans forum so I could check out the 18+ deleted scene for Cat & Bones after the S&M club in book 4 (or was it 3? I forget) - that was fun. I'm pretty sure I signed a disclaimer that I wouldn't publish anything or reveal anything from the seekrit bat cave, so all I can say is - there were more piercings...Kaetrinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16936055488367251592noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480569708975020177.post-23458269669073437712011-04-03T06:39:26.938+09:302011-04-03T06:39:26.938+09:30I'm not a big Bourne fan, and have never been ...I'm not a big Bourne fan, and have never been able to pinpoint why. But everyone else really enjoys her, so I'm glad you did, too!

And as for Dreaming of You, you should read it. The written word in that one is wonderful, and Derek makes a great, if unlikely hero. I enjoyed Then Came You as well. Her older historicals are so fantastic.

I gave up on the Stuart series after the opening novella. Which makes me sad, because her old historicals are something amazing.Lorihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08250972350798310498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2480569708975020177.post-84553502019436702582011-04-03T00:50:45.859+10:302011-04-03T00:50:45.859+10:30I enjoyed The Trap, too. I've read the first three or four books in the series about Cat and Bones, but haven't touched them since my m/m immersion.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12959009113795804133noreply@blogger.com
